What happens during the tooth extraction procedure?
Posted By Dr. Jeanne Anne Krizman
While tooth extractions are considered a routine dental procedure, we know that it can be daunting to hear that you need to have a tooth extracted. At Tucson Biological Dentistry in Tucson, Arizona, we are here to help calm any anxieties you have about the procedure and take extra steps to ensure your comfort and wellness both during and after the procedure. We believe in the power of patient education and take the time to explain the procedure and what to expect so that you are informed and confident going into your treatment.
Keeping you comfortable and relaxed
We used evidence-based and effective natural therapies to promote comfort and relaxation throughout your dental extractions. We use local anesthesia to numb the treatment area before the extraction and offer drug-free relaxation options such as the NuCalm system and essential oils to help keep you calm and free from anxiety.
Simple tooth extractions
Teeth above the gum line that are unbroken are typically removed through a simple extraction process that is gentle and precise. We use specialized tools to loosen the tooth and remove it from the socket carefully. The area is sanitized as needed, and then we apply ozone therapy to disinfect the site further and promote healing.
Surgical extractions
Some teeth require a surgical extraction because they have either not fully erupted (impacted teeth) or broken off at the gum line. After ensuring that the area is completely numbed, small incisions are made in the gum above the tooth, and then the tooth is removed in pieces. Some patients may also require a small amount of bone tissue removal. Like a simple extraction, the area is then thoroughly disinfected and treated with ozone therapy. Leukocyte-Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) may also be used to expedite healing and recovery.
After your dental extraction has healed, we will work closely with you to identify the best tooth replacement option for your needs. That may include:
Dental implant
Partial denture
Dental bridge
Biological dental care designed for you
Our dental team is here for you at every step of the dental extraction and tooth replacement process. To schedule your appointment at Tucson Biological Dentistry, call (520) 326-0082 or e-mail us at smile@krizmandental.com today!
